Easter 2026
Easter is one of the times in the year when we celebrate together as friends and family, eat too much chocolate and enjoy the beginnings of Spring. But what if there's more? Why not take the time to explore why millions of Christians across the world celebrate Easter.
Why are people celebrating Jesus?
People have been celebrating Jesus for thousands of years. He offers mankind hope and new life, saving us from what we’ve done wrong and carrying the burdens that weigh us down.
God is a perfect God: He always has and always will be perfect. So, when mankind first fell into sin, it meant that man’s relationship with him would never be the same again because our sin tarnishes his perfection.
For thousands of year man could never bridge the gap between us and God, the loving relationship between creator and created seemingly gone forever. We needed a way to be forgiven and find restoration... this could only come in the form of a saviour.
Jesus came as this saviour. God in human form. Perfect in every way. He came down from heaven to live life on earth. And when he died on the cross, he took our punishment and wiped the slate clean, restoring our relationship with Him forever.
We celebrate Easter today because this new relationship with God means we have access to new life, hope, peace and so much more... it’s something to be very joyful about!
Do I have to come to church to find out about Jesus?
Nowhere in the Bible does it say to have to go to church if you become a Christian. However, find the right church for you and the benefits will outweigh any negative stereotypes you might have:
Church is Fun: Find the right church for you and you will discover that church is full of joy and life. If you take the time to visit a variety of churches you will find the one that’s best for you, whether you prefer contemporary music, creativity, peaceful moments to reflect, or a more traditional service.
Church is About Learning: Church will teach you more about Jesus than what you find online it’s the place where you can study the Bible together, know for certain what’s true, and ask questions in a safe place.
Church is Family: Churches are made up of many ages, people, and cultures, it’s truly one amazing family to belong to, all supporting and encouraging each other through life’s ups and downs.
Church is Community: The church family is there to help others, which is exactly what Jesus did when he was on the earth. Whether this is helping people within your church, or those in the local area, the church is there to support people in times of need and to work together to solve problems.
How can I find out more about becoming a Christian?
For some, choosing to become a Christian and follow Jesus is a quick decision. Their heart responds to what he has done for them on the cross and they say a big YES! They go all in and are ready to make the leap.
For others, it takes time to get to know Jesus, and to learn more about what he did, before making a commitment and saying yes to him. Whilst deciding if they want to make a lifetime commitment to Jesus, these people can start off by saying a little yes, committing to finding out more so that one day they'll be ready to make the step.
Then there’ll be some who have been told about Jesus and they immediately say no, it’s not for them. But perhaps a response of maybe is better than a complete refusal, because sometimes seasons in our lives change and a no isn’t always a no forever.
If you’re a big yes or a little yes or a healthy maybe today, can we encourage you to find a local church full of people who love Jesus, so that they can support you and pray for you as you get to know God more and begin an adventure of a lifetime with him.
You are welcome to join us this Easter Sunday, 10:30am at Norton College
