Bite Size Services 2010

Bite Size Services return throughout the summer of 2010. Each service is only one hour long giving busy people the opportunity to sample church without making a commitment.  Sunday is often the day when everyone relaxes, has more time for hobbies and family, yet Christians can be so busy GOING TO church there is not time left to BE the church.  Let’s BE the church and love our neighbours, spending quality time with friends and family.  Why not try to get to know someone new this summer?

Bite Size Services started on Sunday 25th July and our theme is ‘I am...’.  To know God we must know Jesus.  Hebrews 1:3 tells us:

‘The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word’.

This summer we will explore the statements Jesus makes through the gospel of John starting with ‘I am...’

Sunday 25th July ‘I am the bread of life’ (John 6:35)

Sunday 1st August ‘I am the light of  the world’ (John 8:12)

Sunday 8th August ‘I am the gate’ (John 10:9)

Sunday 15th August ‘I am the good shepherd’ (John 10:11)

Sunday 22nd August ‘I am the resurrection and the life’ (John 11:25)

Sunday 29th August ‘I am the way and the truth and the life’ (John 14:6)

Sunday 5th September ‘I am the true vine’ (John 15:1)

This is a great opportunity to invite those who may have never stepped into a church service before. They may be amazed!

How free am I?

The Apostle Paul encourages the Romans, ‘we too may live a new life’ (Romans 6:4), this is the promise that has been made possible for every one who embraces the death and resurrection of Jesus. However, Paul also recognises the inward torment and struggle we all experience as we break free from our old ways and live the new life.  We can all relate to Paul as he says, ‘I do not understand what I do.  For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.’ (Romans 7:15).  However, Paul knew and we must know that freedom is possible for each of us for this is the reason Jesus came, ‘It was for  freedom that Christ has set us free’ (Galatians 5:1).  Sometimes this journey can be sudden, dramatic yet other times it is gradual and a process.  During the autumn I believe God wants us to ask the question, ‘How free am I?’

How free am I? To aid us in this process we are going to spend most of the autumn term exploring and discovering  greater ‘Freedom in Christ’.  This is not for a few, I would like to encourage EVERYONE to go on this journey together.  I believe if we are to continue to reach out we must reach deeper ourselves.  I believe if we want to lead others into freedom, we must be free ourselves.  The evening services will be dedicated to teaching on this topic starting on Sunday 12th September until Sunday 12th December.  I have also invited a wonderful pastoral couple, Colin and Joyce Powell to minister, teach and pray for individuals during 13th and 14th November.  There will be a day of teaching, prayer and worship on Saturday 13th so please put these dates in your diary.  I wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible so arrangements can be made to be there.  Each week will be an essential building block to help us answer the question, ‘How free am I?’ but more importantly to live in the freedom Jesus came to give.  You too may live a new life!
